You moved to Dubai from the UK. You ordered bed sheets from a UK retailer because you knew the brand. They arrived. The fitted sheet doesn’t fit. The flat sheet is too short. The pillowcases are slightly too narrow. Sound familiar?
Bed sheet sizing is one of the most underestimated sources of frustration when moving to the UAE — or when ordering internationally. The names are the same (King, Queen, Single) but the dimensions are not, and the differences are large enough to matter.
The Complete Size Comparison: UAE vs UK vs US
| Bed Size | UAE / GCC (cm) | UK (cm) | US (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single / Twin | 90 x 190 | 90 x 190 | 99 x 191 |
| Double / Full | 120 x 190 | 135 x 190 | 137 x 191 |
| Queen | 160 x 200 | No standard Queen | 153 x 203 |
| King | 180 x 200 | 150 x 200 | 193 x 203 |
| Super King | 200 x 200 | 180 x 200 | No standard |
| Emperor | 200 x 220 | 200 x 200 | No standard |
A UK King is 150cm wide. A UAE King is 180cm wide. That’s a 30cm difference — enough for the sheet to sit visibly short on two sides of the bed. This is the most common sizing mistake UAE residents make.
Ordering UK King for a UAE King Bed
This is by far the most common problem for British expats in Dubai. The UK King (150cm) is what Brits know as “King” — but it’s actually closer to a UAE Queen (160cm). A UAE King is 180cm wide. If you order UK King sheets for your Dubai apartment’s King bed, the fitted sheet will be noticeably short on the sides and will likely pop off regularly.
Ordering US King for a UAE King Bed
The US King (193cm) is wider than the UAE King (180cm) and significantly longer (203cm vs 200cm). US King sheets will hang over the edges on width, which can look untidy and cause the fitted sheet to bunch under the mattress.
Not Checking Mattress Depth
Even when the length and width are correct, UAE mattresses tend to run deeper (30-40cm) than the standard depth that UK or US fitted sheets are designed for (typically 25-30cm). A sheet with insufficient pocket depth will pop off the corners — especially if you move in your sleep.
How to Get the Right Size Every Time
Measure your mattress before you buy. Length, width and depth. Then buy from a UAE-based brand that sizes its sheets for local mattresses. RocketLinen’s full size guide covers all standard UAE bed sizes in both cm and inches, with pocket depth information included.
All RocketLinen sheet sets — White, Beige and Grey — are sized specifically for UAE mattress dimensions, with deep-pocket fitted sheets that accommodate mattresses up to 41cm deep.
A Note on Pillowcase Sizes
UK standard pillows are 50 x 75cm. UAE pillows are typically 50 x 90cm or 50 x 92cm. If you order UK pillowcases for UAE pillows, the pillow won’t fit properly — it’ll scrunch up at the end or leave a gap at the opening. Always check pillowcase dimensions as well as bed sheet sizes when ordering from non-UAE retailers.

The Simple Rule
If you’re in the UAE, buy from a UAE brand or verify the exact dimensions against your mattress measurements before ordering from anywhere else. The names are the same internationally — the numbers are not. Getting this right means sheets that fit, stay put, and look the way a well-made bed should look.
